The end of a night of fishing for shrimp with cantilevered nets in the shallow waters near Kallancherry Island. The fishermen spend the night on their small platforms perched in the shallow seawater. They lift the counterweighted net up a few times per hour to remove their catch, before lowering the net and throwing in more coconut shells to attract the small crustaceans. This night of fishing brought in 5kg of shrimp, which will fetch about 500 rupees ($7) in the local market.
